What is the `this` keyword in JavaScript?

In JavaScript, the `this` keyword refers to the object that is currently executing the function. The value of `this` depends on how a function is called. In a method, `this` refers to the owner object. In a regular function or arrow function, `this` refers to the global object (`window` in browsers), unless in strict mode, where it is `undefined`. In event handlers, `this` refers to the element that received the event.
